¿QUÉ TIPO DE TOALLA ES MEJOR PARA IR A LA PLAYA?
Currently you can find two types of beach towels on the market: traditional cotton towels or new generation microfiber towels.
When we consider which of these two types is better, we should consider and analyze at least four technical characteristics of each of them:
Drying capacity: when we ask ourselves if one towel dries more than another, what we should really analyze is the absorption capacity of each type of fabric. Said absorption capacity is determined by the volume of water (and weight of said water) that it is capable of absorbing with respect to the weight of the towel. In general, the absorption capacity of a microfiber towel is 4 times its weight, while in the case of a traditional towel, it is around 2 times its weight.
Volume and weight: everyone knows that the volume and space that a towel occupies in our bag or backpack is very significant, even more so if we transport more than one unit. In this sense, the microfiber towel usually has a weight and volume of half that of a traditional towel of equivalent measurements.
Speed of drying: how fast or slow a towel dries has a lot to do with the thickness of its fabric, since the thicker it is, the longer the drying time is. In general, a microfiber towel is less than 0.5mm thick, so its drying speed is much higher than that of a traditional towel.
Washing/maintenance: there are no substantial differences in how we should wash a traditional towel or a microfiber towel. In both cases they admit a conventional washing with a washing machine at a temperature of 40º and they are also suitable for drying.
There are other variables that influence the decision of what type of towel to choose, but they are more subjective, such as tastes or preferences for one type of Print or another and the touch that we like the most. These variables are not the object of analysis in this article, which has focused on measurable and objective variables.
